New Years Resolutions in Dartmouth 2017

New Year Resolutions: Make a good start on your aims for 2017 with a visit to Dartmouth

At a time of year when we’re recovering from the Christmas excess and thinking of the year ahead we often set ourselves some goals to aim for.  If you’re worried treating yourself to a holiday in Devon might tempt you to break them, or are looking for the ideal location to tackle some of them, then Dartmouth is the place for you.

Do more exercise….

Dartmouth is renowned for its wealth of stunning walks both from the town and further afield.  Why not tackle all or some of the South West Coastal Path in 2017 and take in the stunning coastline of this part of Devon.

There are many walks to choose from, differing lengths depending on time available or stamina. There are many great places to walk your dog too – both you and your dog will love the beautiful countryside and beaches.

Learn a new skill….

Maybe you live in a city or land-locked town in the UK and rarely get the chance to get out on the water?  Due to its location Dartmouth is the ideal location to try your hand at a new water sport.  We really recommend trying out Kayaking along the River Dart, a tranquil and restful way to see this part of South Devon.

Maybe you’d rather keep your feet on dry land, why not try your hand at golf? With a number of high quality golf courses in the area of Dartmouth which welcome novices it’s a great base to start your exploration into this popular pastime.

Cut down on your food air miles….

The town of Dartmouth and the surrounding region is famous for its natural larder of produce. Riches from the sea and earth are featured on most menus, meaning you can be confident what you’re eating has not travelled very far.

There is plenty of opportunity to drink wine produced just down the road; fish caught that morning from the sea right on your doorstep and vegetables grown in the rich South Devon soil from the many fantastic restaurants and cafes in the town.

Put your phone down….

Many people spend a lot of their time in front of a screen.  A break in Dartmouth is the ideal time to put a screen ban on the family and really appreciate the beauty of the region.  Many an hour can be whiled away sitting on the quayside watching the comings and goings on the river.  Why not pick up a crabbing kit and try your hand at catching some crabs, it’s amazing how competitive a family can become when it comes to catching the most.

With stunning beacheswithin a short distance of Dartmouth wild swimming, sandcastle building, shell collecting or simply enjoying lying in the sun will fill your days, allowing you to forget the call of social media or work!

Shop local, support small businesses….

A visit to Dartmouth would not be complete without a few hours spent milling around the wonderful independent shops, galleries and boutiques situated amongst the attractive streets of the town.  With many of the products on sale being produced by local artists and crafters you are really supporting the local economy when making a purchase.

That support allows Dartmouth to continue to be the thriving and lively town it is and able to welcome visitors all year round.

So don’t think the safest thing to do in order to keep to your resolutions this year is to stick to your routine and not plan any adventures.  Plan your visit to Dartmouth and enjoy South Devon at its best, there’s no reason not to!
