Information
Hi, you are looking at Spyglass - our lovely little retreat in the fantastic historic port of Dartmouth. The location is great - handy for town but very quiet with views to die for. The property is about 200 years old and is thought to have been converted from an old sail loft. Many original features have been retained and Spyglass is comfortably furnished following a nautical theme. There are wonderful views of the Dart, across to Kingswear, Dartmouth Castle, the Royal Navy College and out to sea - it really is a wonderful home in a superb location. The property is right on the Coastal Path, and in the immediate area you can find boat trips, sailing, coves and great shopping when the weather misbehaves.
Spyglass is over 2 floors. There is a front stable door with Georgian glass panes and a porthole, opening onto an entrance hall. Off the hall is a bright and light shower room. There is a kitchen dining room with compact, but fully fitted, kitchen. All modern appliances are included. The dining table can be extended and the dining area has views of the Royal Naval College. The bedroom has two single beds that can be pushed together to form a double if wanted. Up steep ladder stairs is the sitting room with glorious views of river, estuary and sea. The nautical curios include a large ships bell, old ship's navigation lights, propeller, blocks and a selection of sailing books. A sofa bed here can be converted into a comfy double bed. The sitting room also has a television/DVD player and FreeSky satellite system. Outside up a short vertical ladder is a cozy roof top sun deck with outdoor furniture - perfect for sunny lunches and warm evenings. In Dartmouth parking is restricted during the summer, so, a summer parking permit is included which gives free, unlimited parking in the town centre car park. We think of the accommodation in Spyglass as 2+2 as it is roomy for 2, cosy for 2 adults and 2 children and quite snug for 4 adults. Spyglass comes with duvets, mattress protectors and pillows for all beds. Visitors can either provide their own duvet covers, pillow cases, bottom sheets and towels or we can provide these for a service charge. We ask for a 50% deposit on booking, which is fully refundable up to one month before the chosen date. A charge for electricity is made of £10 a week for April to September and £20 a week for October to March. Our changeover day is Saturday and cleaning is included.
The historic port of Dartmouth has something for everyone. Spyglass is very handy for the centre of Dartmouth being only 2 minutes stroll away. The river front, at Bayards Quay, is even closer and was the setting for 'The Onedin Line' There are restaurants galore, castles, fishing and boat trips, yachting, diving, steam trains and a dramatic coastline to keep visitors busy and wanting more. Dart Music festival runs in May, Shakespeare Week in August, The Dartmouth Royal Regatta is held in late August and the Dartmouth Food Festival is late October.
