ABOUT

There has been a Baptist witness in Dartmouth for nearly 400 years with a Baptist church in Dartmouth being formed in the early 1600s and was a pioneer church from which sprang fellowships in Brixham, Kingsbridge and Plymouth. Thomas Newcomen the inventor of the first practical steam engine for pumping water was a teaching elder and a Baptist lay preacher in the early Baptist church at Dartmouth situated in the lower part of the town and was pastor of the church from 1710 -1730.

In 1954, a new building was erected in the upper part of the town in Carey Road Townstal which is capable of seating 100+ with a kitchen, toilets and a church office and In 1980 a school hall was added. In 2007 the church underwent a major refurbishment to bring it up to modern building standards including disability access and has a fully equipped audio visual system with a main screen.

The church is situated in the middle of the Townstal estate and seeks to provide a service to Dartmouth bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to the local community in spiritual and practical ways. Our congregation spans the whole age range, but we are looking to entice more families and youth to the church so it can grow further. Dartmouth Baptist Church is affiliated to the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
