There’s plenty of food for thought, as well as food to eat, at this year’s Dartmouth Food Festival from 19-21 October.

Described by The Guardian as ‘one of the top ten food festivals in the UK’ and by The Telegraph as ‘a heady mix of celebrity chefs, parties, food markets, tasting shacks and demonstrations,’ Dartmouth Food Festival is a family-friendly food lover’s paradise set in a heavenly harbourside location.

The annual event showcases the very best food and drink experiences from across Devon and the South West and attracts a cast of culinary heroes offering a feast of entertainment that’s hard to beat. Everyone is welcome and entry is free!

Mark Hix, Matt Tebbutt, Jane Baxter, Mitch Tonks and Romy Gill MBE lead the line-up of talented guest chefs showing off their skills in the Demonstration Kitchen by day and popping up at various venues around town to host a number of special supper events by night.

This year Eat Your Words moves to a new location – a stunning yurtin the heart of Dartmouth. Join food experts, writers and chefs as they discuss new ideas and fresh challenges from the world of food and drink. The free sessions run from 10am on Saturday and conclude on Sunday morning with Kitchen Confidential, a lively Q&A featuring a panel of guest chefs.

Festival-goers of all ages who fancy learning a new kitchen skill can choose from over 30 different hands-on workshops organised by Manna from Devon Cooking School. Learn how to make the perfect ceviche, the smoothest chocolate truffles, the finest Moroccan flatbread and much more.

If mastering the art of tasting wine is more your thing, then check out the Drinks Theatre at Browns Hotel. A fascinating programme of wine tastings and seminars has been co-ordinated by The Telegraph’s wine and drinks columnist Susy Atkins and features well known drinks experts Will Lyons (The Sunday Times) and Fiona Beckett (The Guardian).

There’s plenty going on to entertain and inspire young people too, including the Children’s Tea Party on the eve of the Festival, pizza and bread making sessions, hands-on workshops specifically for children and the popular Family Area in Royal Avenue Gardens.

Whatever you decide to do during your visit to the Dartmouth Food Festival, make sure you leave plenty of time to simply soak up the unique festival atmosphere. Dartmouth’s picturesque harbourside streets were made for meandering and with over 100 artisan stalls located all around the town you will find plenty to tempt you around every corner.

Entry to the Festival is free. Ticketed events – for which there may be a charge – will be available to book online from mid-September. For more details visit dartmouthfoodfestival.com
