History

Steeped in history, this beautiful village is home to an 800 year old yew tree in the churchyard and local residents have fished for Dart Salmon in the river for centuries.

Stoke Gabriel is popular location with boating enthusiasts because of the easy access to the Dart, perfect for trying your hand at kayaking or stand up paddleboarding. There are local shops, pubs, a post office and accommodation all within walking distance.

One spot known as the ideal place to go crabbing is the Quay, an activity the whole family will enjoy. There are also lovely walks to be enjoyed along the riverbank as well as through the old apple orchard and the meandering streets of the village.

There are plenty of things to do in Stoke Gabriel, you can enjoy the open South Devon countryside by foot, on two wheels, sail or motor. The river presents the perfect opportunity for recreation, and there are many open spaces to enjoy. In particular, the Mill Pool, parish orchard and the prize winning Hoyle Copse, to name a few.
