History

The town’s history is evident to see as you walk among the streets and along the embankment. Many of the monuments and landmarks are located in the parks and open spaces and throughout the streets making them easily accessible and visible. Two of the most noticeable free historical attractions in Dartmouth include the 1534 Tudor fort of Bayards Cove Fort and the Newcomen Engine housed in the Dartmouth Visitor Centre.
