Dittisham

Key Information

Dittisham, Dartmouth, UK

ABOUT

Dittisham or Ditsum as it’s know to locals, is one of the most attractive villages that you’ll come across in South Devon. This un-spoilt and exceptionally beautiful riverside settlement on the Dart is the perfect place for a relaxing break away or day visit. It’s just two miles upstream of the River Dart from Dartmouth.

Getting There

The best way, in our opinion, to reach Dittisham is by boat. You can hop aboard a ferry from Dartmouth which takes around 30 minutes or if you’re coming from the other side of the Dart there is a ferry that operates between Greenway and the village. This one is also good to bear in mind if you’re staying in Dittisham as you can use it to visit the Greenway Estate, a National Trust property that was once owned by Agatha Christie.

Things to Do

If you’ve got little ones with you on their trip then be sure to enjoy a spot of crabbing off the pontoon. The adults can enjoy a refreshing pint in the nearby pub too. By the water’s edge there’s a large open space known as ‘The Ham’ which is great for picnics and outdoor activities.

The location of Dittisham means it’s great for countryside and riverside walks as well as the opportunity for you to get out on the water. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife too. The River Dart is known to be home to lots of different fish, birds and other animals.
